Welcome to Speaking Wireless.  This website contains descriptions, features, prices of wireless headsets and hands free car speakerphones for cell phones.  

Both headsets and handsfree car speaker systems allow you to take phone calls from your cell phone wirelessly without having to put the phone up to your ear.  

Headsets are lightweight devices that fit on or in the ear.

Car speakerphones often attach to the sun visor, and contain a speaker and a microphone which allows the driver to speak and take calls from his or her cell phone wirelessly without having to hold the cell phone.  No special installation is required for the car speakerphones listed on this website.

Which product should I buy?

Like most products, which bluetooth headset or car speaker phone you should buy depends on two factors – price and features.  

Bluetooth products can range from $20 or less to $100.  Generally, the higher the price, the more features it has.  

In the low range of prices, you can get basic features of answering calls, end calls, and call volume adjustment. Other common features are reject calls, mute calls, and redial last number called.

Mid to higher priced products can have more advanced features such as noise reduction to help reduce background noise while speaking.

Plantronics is a leader in producing premium quality headsets.  The Discovery 925 has two microphones to capture voices and reduce background noise.  Its carrying case charges the headset.  The Voyager Pro also has two microphones and three types of wind reduction technology.  The Voyager 855 has AD2P and comes with headset and additional ear bud to for listening to calls or music in both ears at the same time.  The Voyager 520 has noise cancellation and Voyager 220  a is popular lower range priced product with basic features and voice activated dialing.

The Jawbone Prime and Jawbone 2 are highly rated with excellent noise cancellation.  They contain “Noise Assassin” technology which separates speech from noise developed for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Blue Ant headsets Z9i and V1 are highly rated products with superior sound quality.  The Blue Ant V1 is unique in that it responds to voice commands (answer call, hang up, etc) and talks back to you.  

Jabra produces excellent lower, mid, and high-range products.  The Jabra BT8040 has “A2DP” which allows for listening to music from your phone or media player or PC (with Bluetooth) and acoustic shock protection which protects from sudden, loud sounds.  The BT 125 has basic features of answer, end, reject calls, last number redial, call waiting, hold calls, voice dialing.

Motorola produces excellent products in a wide range of prices.  The H550, H500, H350  all have answer, end, reject, hold, redial last call, and mute.  The Samsung WEP 350 is one of the worlds thinnest Bluetooth headsets according to the manufacturer.

In addition to the same features as headsets, car speaker phones can have phone books with list of numbers to call from.   Some car speaker phones speak the number or name of person calling or show it on a screen.  

Car speaker phones are put in the car, often attached by a clip to the sun visor, allow the driver to speak and take calls from his or her cell phone wirelessly without having to hold the cell phone.    No special installation is required for the car speakerphones listed on this website.
